A Few Great Gift Basket Giving Opportunities ----------

It won't surprise you to hear that I believe that gift baskets or flower arrangements are ideal for every gift giving occasion. There are so many varieties of gift baskets that I can find one to fit everyone's taste and personality.

Of course, we all enjoy giving at all the obvious times: Christmas, Easter, New Years, Chanukah, Weddings, Anniversaries and Birthdays.

There are some times, though, that you may overlook:

* For example, Memorial Day is a great time to remember the recent death of a friend's loved one by sending a gift basket.  Or you may want to send a nice arrangement of flowers to the departed's place of worship.

* Speaking of Memorial Day, any three day holiday weekend provides a good holiday weekend gives us an opportunity to show someone you care. Labor Day, Presidents' Day, July 4th, etc. When a friend invites you to a barbeque, why don't you send them a thoughtful gift of pre-made, heat and serve appetizers. If you're lucky, maybe you'll get to share some of them!

* Do you know someone who's retiring or has recently retired? Send them a basket with gourmet foods and a fine bottle of wine. After all, the company is going to give a watch to someone who no longer needs to worry about the time. Everyone always "needs" great drink and food.

* Funeral.  Most families are overwhelmed by flowers and other memorial gifts.  Why not send them a fruit gift basket a week or two later? Most people could use some thoughtful attention at that time. Be sure to follow that up with a phone call every so often.

* A lovely plant gift makes a wonderful traditional housewarming gift. On the other hand, if they are still in the process of putting things away and discarding boxes, take them some gourmet, easily prepared food. After all, they probably don't have much time to cook, especially if they can't find their pots and pans!

* Cabin fever.  Fight the foul mood that some friends feel every winter.  Send them some sunshine in the form of bright yellow flowers...just "for the heck of it!"  Or help them ignore the weather with a gourmet wine basket.

* Newlyweds might encounter a bit of a letdown feeling when they return from a honeymoon. It's time for them to get back to normal life, and they may have some catching up to do at work. Wouldn't that be a perfect time to send them already-prepared gourmet meals?

Surprising someone with a gift at a random time is great fun! I invite you to give it a try, too. I'll bet it even makes you smile.
